Electronic sports (eSports) has been gaining traction globally in recent years. It is a multiplayer video game played competitively for spectators. With its high variations in game nature, it could be structured into different forms of competitions and different models of ecosystem could be created. eSports involves game developer and publishers, event organisers, sponsors, broadcasters, supporting professionals (e.g. coaches, referees and commentators), players and fans.
In recent years, eSports have become one of the most rapidly growing forms of new media. video game playing has developed from a general leisure activity into electronic sports (eSports). eSports have become a new driving force for economic growth. Quite a number of countries and regions regularly offer e-sports training programmes and organise professional leagues, and have classified e-sports as sports. eSports spectators watch TV or live streaming on the internet, where they could also participate in social interaction such as forums and live chat rooms.
The programme aims to develop students’ awareness and understanding of various concept and technological skills in eSports industry. It helps students explore the career opportunity of the growing eSports industry, and be well equipped to contribute to the development of industry.
